The Poornima Project

Conventional schooling has attributed the responsibility of a children’s physical and mental well being to the families of these children. However, not all families can afford appropriate nutritional maintenance. We, at Bodh, believe that all children have an inalienable right to basic nutrition and are therefore trying to help children grow and develop through an initiative called Poornma.

We piloted Project Poornma in February 2017, and by July the same year, a centralised kitchen was created in Thanaghazi, which caters to 31 Bodhshalas, and5000 children. Most of the funds for this endeavor are contributed by the Eicher Group Foundation and the rest are chipped in by the families of the children. In this way, Poornma is a joint venture by Bodh, our funders and the communities we work with.

Poornma envisions these communities, as occupying the central space in its designing, implementation, and monitoring. Consequently, a women’s group, that has taken ownership of the project, was set up for each school. These groups ensure appropriate health and hygiene practices by children before, during and after the meal.

A separate society, called Poornma Baladhikaar Samiti, was created with one woman from each community and 3-4 members from Bodh, with the sole purpose of shaping of the future goals and its scaling up and to help us proceed smoothly along our path leading to healthy, wealthy and wise minds of the future.
