KGBV- RAJASTHAN

KGBV-Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidhyalaya is a National Governant Scheme for addressing the needs of never – enrolled and drop – out girl child from educationally backward blocks through residential schools. There are 200 such residential schools in Rajasthan where Bodh with support of NSE (National Stock Exchange) is implemented a learning improvement program ‘Prajawala’. The program would cover all KGBV’s in a phased manner through ground level organizations which would directly extend support to KGBV’s.

Prajwala Project is going to be implemented in 200 KGBVs across the state of Rajasthan in a phased manner. In the first phase (2018-19) of the project, it has been implemented in 73 schools of 11 districts in Rajasthan. This is an umbrella project aiming at comprehensive development of KGBVs across the state in which education is one central component.

Before implementing the intervention process in education, it was important to conduct diagnostic assessment to understand the existing learning level of the children and their learning needs. The target class for the intervention is 0 grade where material for accelerated learning is used for newly enrolled girls. It is commonly found that when the girls clear zero grade they still lack basic numeracy and literacy skills or what is required as a prerequisite for being able to attend grade 6.

Academic Support Fellows those who extend support to Kasturba Balika Vidhyalaya are young girls from the nearby areas with atleast grade 12 qualification. Under the program these girls also get an opportunity to initiate their professional career and get trained as teachers leading to their empowerment as well.

Here it is important that all areas where major deficiencies are found in any of the learning outcomes are effectively addressed.
The core objective of the project is to ensure comprehensive learning achievements of all the girls.
