RUPANTAR - CENTER FOR TEACHER EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT

A JOINT INITIATIVE OF NEEV AND BODH.

Rupantar was established at Bodh Parisar, Kukas, in November 2017, as an effort to reform by aspects of education related to teaching-learning for a holistic paradigm shift in the classroom, structures of ownership and participation, assessment and teacher education.

The classrooms today are not active learning spaces for all children as children are neither sufficiently nor effectively engaged in the classroom. The teachers are rarely aware of the different learning needs of their students. As a result of this many children do not get adequate support that they need to learn. This is because teacher education programmes today are unable to equip the teachers to effectively address the challenges of the classroom contextqualitatively and scientifically.

Rupantar, the ‘Centre for Teacher Education and Development’ was envisaged to prepare the school and teachers to respond to the changing needs of the time, based on the core concerns and philosophy that defines a good school. It aims to form a reflective collective which initiates a qualitative transformation process that is needed to produce child-centred, child-driven, independent learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving classrooms. This centre will be a platform for teachers, teacher educators, education facilitators and community mobilizers to interact and gain new perspectives on foundational areas of education and subject teaching and will equip them to transform their classrooms positively.

About the partnering organizations:

Bodh has been working on the areas of contextual learning and teacher education since its inception as has realized that the key agent that needs to be reached out to is ‘the teacher’.

NEEV is a network of researchers that provide research and development support to government, private and community-based schools, and learning centers to improve their classroom quality with equity continuously.

Their collaboration aims to make a lasting contribution to education transformation.
